Choose your Sport
Team / Individual
As a teacher, you are encouraged to select one of the following sports as your baseline for a Sportified Learning game. Ideally you will play these gamesinside the classroom so that it is faster and easier and thus more often used. You do not need to adopt all elements of a specific sport, rather adjust it to you learning goals by borrowing only sports elements that will make the process exhiting for students and still keep the focus on learning. You can choose either Team or Individual sports depending on the learning skills you wish to assess/apply. It is recommended that even when a sport is Individual that you still form teams that their performance depends on the sum of all the individual outcomes - just like a Skii or a Track and Field team.
Sports equipment are not necessary - students may also act out as if they have them. For example students can pretend they are throwing a baseball ball as well as hitting it with an imaginary bat. The teacher can simply mark the bases with tape (or any other mean). Instead of having an athlete run to catch the ball and throw it back to stop the opponent from running, a student/athlete can be challenged to quickly perform a challenge so when done correctly the opponent stops running to additional bases.
Althernatively, if equipment is readily available and safe for the classroom, they may be utilized to make the game more realistic. For example, students can play with a basketball ball to give passes but perhaps instead of dribbling they need to answer questions to be able to take a step.
You can be very creative in how you design your Sportified Learning games. these sports are here to provide you with some inspiration of a general sports structure and the plainfield is all yours.
